Columbarium at St. Francis Episcopal Church

What is a Columbarium?

A columbium is a maintained place to repose ashes (in an urn or other suitable container). Generally, each space or “Niche” is 12” high by 12” wide, and deep enough to accommodate two containers. Each niche has a granite covering that may be custom engraved to memorialize the person(s) whose ashes are inside the niche. Niches are individually sealed and installed in columns and rows, with a brick or concrete base and finished sides.

Where would the Columbarium be Located?

The columbarium would be attached to the West side of the church, near the rose garden.

Click the image above to see the presentation from the General Meeting (does not work in Firefox). If you get a warning, please select "Allow Blocked Content" and say "Yes" to the security warning to see the presentation.

What are the benefits of a Columbarium at St. Francis?

It would be: a resting place for beloved members of our church family; an economical but respectful alternative to burial for our community, a source of financial support to maintain our church facilities

How would the Columbarium be managed?

There would be written rules and standards created by St. Francis Church that will govern the sale and maintenance of niches. Niches may be sold in advance – subject to approval by the Bishop’s Committee. Niches could be made available to non-church members at current market rates (higher than those for church members). The engraving of granite covers would be subject to written standards, and performed only by approved businesses.

How can I express my interest or get more information?

Please fill out and return the Columbarium Interest Form which is available at the Church entrance and from the Church Office. You can also get the form by clicking on the image below.
